Preventive care schedule

Here is the standard schedule for well child care at our office. This schedule is generally advised as a base for all children, though some children who have medical conditions that we are following (such as asthma) may require additional visits to these:

Healthy Schedule

Newborn Visits:

  • After birth (within 24 hours) - this is typically at the hospital or birthing center, but may be at your home if your baby was born at home. For more information about newborn care, please see our having your baby page.

  • Newborn visit (day 3-5 of age) - this visit is typically after discharge home from the hospital or birthing center, and we offer house calls for these visits if you live within 10-15 minutes of our clinic.

  • 2 weeks - this visit is typically scheduled between 10-14 days of age, and occurs at our office.

Infant and toddler schedule:

Here are the ages for scheduling your routine infant well child checks, along with the vaccines that are recommended at those visits (note that individual vaccinations may vary if your child is behind on anything, and this doesn't include annual flu vaccinations which occur during the fall for children ages 6 months and up, either during our flu vaccine clinics or if the timing coincides with one of your well checks it can be administered along with other routine vaccinations.

  • 2 months - (DTaP/Hib/Polio, Pneumococcal, and Rotavirus)

  • 4 months - (DTaP/Hib/Polio, Pneumococcal, Hep B and Rotavirus)

  • 6 months - (DTaP/Hib/Polio, Pneumococcal, Hep B and Rotavirus)

  • 9 months - (Hep B if not received at birth)

  • 12 months - (MMR, Varicella, Hep A)

  • 15 months - (DTaP/Hib/Polio, Pneumococcal)

  • 18 months - (Hep A*)

  • 24 months - (no shots*)

  • 30 months - (no shots)

*the second Hep A must be a minimum of 6 months after the first Hep A, so if possible schedule the 18 month visit at least 6 months or more after your 12 month visit if your baby receive the first Hep A at their 12 month visit. If not, or if that would delay this visit significantly (i.e. more than a month or two), you can always do the second Hep A at the 2 year visit instead. It's just otherwise nice not to need any shots at 2!

Childhood schedule (3 years and up)

All children are advised to come in for an annual checkup from age 3 on. Typically, especially during school age, summer is a great time to schedule these visits regardless of birthday because you won't need to take them out of school and we are less busy seeing sick children during those times. So when spring rolls around, give us a call to schedule!

  • 3 years

  • 4 years - (MMR/Varicella and DTaP/Polio)

  • 5 years

  • 6 years

  • 7 years

  • 8 years

Same-day appointments

For urgent needs, same-day appointments are available Monday through Friday. Please call as early in the day as possible, the more notice we have the easier it is to fit everyone in.

Need help outside of office hours?

Firstly, if your child has an emergency, please call 911 or go directly to the ER - they will contact us if needed once your child has been evaluated.

Urgent Care centers can also be helpful when something needs to be seen outside of office hours but it's not an emergency.

For our list of preferred Urgent Cares and ERs, see our resources page.

And if you have something that might need urgent attention but you're not sure/don't know what to do, we can help:
